SPENCERPORT SPARKS MODIFIED TRAVEL SOFTBALL

What: Set in a fun and competitive environment, Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball offers girls the opportunity to play softball against some of the best players in the area, while expanding their knowledge of the game and enhancing their skills. Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball will participate in competitive tournament and league play. The program builds upon the fundamental skills learned at the introductory levels of the sport, emphasizing development, hard work, commitment, and sportsmanship while providing a challenging and rewarding experience. The program will act as a bridge between Little League and school ball, and will help players who want to participate at the next level build the skills and team ethic needed for success.

Accreditation: USA Softball accredited

Tryouts: Tryouts for our 14U team will take place on August 1st & 3rd 2023, at Pineway Ponds Park on Field #3 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There is a $25.00 nonrefundable fee to register. This is a competitive tryout; not all players will be selected for the Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball Team. Girls’ birth year must be 2009 or 2010 (unless playing up) to be eligible.

League Ages/Divisions: The Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball 14U team is sanctioned under USA Softball. (The program expects to expand to 12U next year.).  If you are interested in coaching a 12U modified travel softball team please reach out to us today!

Requesting To Play Up: A player may be eligible to play up if she is selected after tryouts. Tryout requests to play up in an age group must be made prior to Monday, July 24th via an email to [email protected]. Please note that age-appropriate players of similar ability will ALWAYS be selected over players that are attempting to try out to play up in age. With that being noted, we will offer a tryout to any girl of 12U age who shows exceptional ability and maturity and is able to commit to the program.

Time Commitment: Travel softball is a commitment, similar to other travel sports. Players are expected to attend practices and games during the season, knowing at times families will have to balance other sports and priorities. There are off-season practices, typically held once or twice weekly during winter months. During the season, teams typically have 2 games and 2 practices per week depending on tournament and league availability. Tournament games will often be on weekends and may involve travel within and outside of Monroe County. Additional games/scrimmages against other local town travel teams may be scheduled throughout the year when possible.

Season: The season varies based on league, tournament, and opponent availability. As mentioned above, the schedule will not be as rigorous as some travel teams, but will aim to be a good mix of options based on the overall skill level of the Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball 14U team. Expect that spring and summer will typically be busier, while the fall and winter months will be spent preparing team members for the upcoming season by continuing to build skills and knowledge of the game with clinics, practices, and lessons.

Playing Time: At this level, playing time is determined by skill, and may not be evenly distributed among teammates. During practices, all girls will be evaluated and given a chance to showcase their abilities.

Practices and Games: Practices normally begin indoors in fall and winter and continue outside beginning in mid-April through the entire season (usually twice a week). Coaches will set the expectations for the season and outline any targeted league play and/or tournament dates as available. The number and type of tournaments are ultimately decided upon by the head coach; however, this determination should always be made after considering parent and player input. This program will also work around any school ball commitments.

Fees: Season fees for the Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball 14U team will be $700.00 per player; this amount includes uniform, indoor practice facility access, league, and tournament costs. The team may choose to fundraise to help cover the costs of additional tournaments or clinics or to offset any current costs. Once the Spencerport Sparks Modified Travel Softball 14U team roster has been determined and a player and her parents accept a roster spot, a nonrefundable deposit of $350.00 is due to secure that player’s spot on the roster. Full payment is due by January 3, 2023. Once a spot on a roster is accepted, the full fee is the obligation of the player and her parents. If, at a later date, the player decides to vacate her roster spot, the player and her parents are still required to pay the full travel fee. The only exception to this is if the organization is able to fill the vacated player’s roster spot; in that case, the amount collected from the new player will be deducted from the amount owed by the departing player. No refunds are available, as all fees collected are paid out to external parties to cover the cost of the program.
