What: Spencerport Travel Baseball offers players the opportunity to play baseball against some of the best players from around the area in a fun and competitive environment.  Spencerport Travel Baseball participates in the Monroe County Baseball Region (MCBR) league.  The Spencerport Travel Baseball organization builds on the fundamental skills learned at the introductory levels, emphasizing skill development, hard work, commitment, and sportsmanship.

Tryouts: Tryouts for 8U - 12U take place in early to mid August for the following season and late August/early September for 13U-15U.  Typically there are no tryouts for 16U and 17U.  Spencerport Travel Baseball attempts to field teams at the following various age groups each year: 8U, 10U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U.  The number of teams formed will depend on player counts and ability at tryouts.  This is a competitive tryout, not all players will be selected for a travel team. The date used to determine age eligibility for all levels is April 30th, 2024.  A player cannot have reached the age ceiling on or before the cut-off date of April 30th, 2024 to participate in that age level.

League Ages/DivisionsMCBR has leagues denoted as 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U, 17U.  Within each league there are multiple divisions to accommodate different levels of play.  Typically at the 10U, 12U, and 15U levels, Spencerport baseball fields multiple teams.  For example, in 2023 for 10U and 12U we had both an upper team and a lower team.  The lower team is typically younger players (9yrs old for 10U and 11yrs old for 12U), many of whom are playing their first year in that age league.  The upper team is typically older players (10yrs old for 10U and 12yrs old for 12U), who very often were on the lower team the previous year.  Note: Based on tryout evaluations, younger players may end up on the upper team and older players may end up on the lower team.

Requesting to Play Up:  It is strongly encouraged and in almost all cases required that players tryout for their own age group.  In very rare instances where a player's ability vastly exceeds others in his/her age group a player may be able play up if they are selected after tryouts.  Requests to tryout up in age group must be made prior to tryouts via an email to [email protected].  You CANNOT simply show-up to the older tryout group.  Please note that age appropriate players of similar ability will ALWAYS be selected over players that are attempting to tryout to play up in age.  **If you tryout up in an age group and do not make the team you are NOT guaranteed a spot on an age appropriate team. You must attend the age appropriate tryout to be considered for that team.**

Time Commitment: Travel baseball is a commitment, similar to other travel sports.  Players are expected to attend both practices and games during the season, knowing at times families will have to balance with other sports.  For 8U to 12U there are off-season practices, typically held once weekly during the months of January to March.  During the season, teams typically have 2 games and 2 practices per week.

Season: MCBR holds a 16-game season with games across Monroe County. 8U through 12U games start in late April and playoffs conclude before July 4th. Tournaments normally take place during the month of July. For 13 through 17U teams, games start in late May/early June and playoffs conclude by the end of July.  Tournaments take place in July and early August.

House Baseball: The Spencerport Junior Baseball house program is a very good option for those players wishing to ready themselves for travel and it also offers the opportunity for some players to gain experience at positions they may not have the chance to play at the travel baseball level.

Playing Time: At the 8U through 12U levels, playing time is fairly balanced.  At the 13 through 17U levels, playing time is more skill-based and may not be as even.

Practices & Games: Practices normally begin once weekly indoors in early January and continue outside beginning in April through the entire season (usually twice a week).  The 8U through 12U seasons begin in late April, while the 13 through 17U seasons begin in early June.   Practice days vary depending on the team.  Most 8u-12U games are played on Fridays and Sundays; however, a rescheduled game could be played on other days of the week.  13U-17U games are variable

Fees: Season costs for travel baseball are approximately $600-$700 (~$500 for 8U), not including the cost of tournaments.  Teams may choose to fundraise to help cover the costs of tournaments.  Once teams are chosen and a player and their parents accept a roster spot, a non-refundable deposit of $150 is due to secure a position.  Full payment is due by January.  Once a position on a team is accepted, the full fee is the obligation of the player.  If, at a later date, the player decides not to play, they are still required to pay the full travel fee.   No refunds are available as all fees collected are paid out to external parties to cover the cost of the program.

Tournaments:  The number and location of tournaments varies by team.  Some teams may choose to play 2 or 3 tournaments, while some may choose not to play any at all.  Most tournaments played are local and require minimal travel accommodations.  The cost of tournaments varies. Local 8U-12U tournaments typically have a registration fee that ranges from $400-$700 per TEAM; while 13U-17U tournaments have registration fees ranging around $700-$1000 per TEAM.  Teams may choose to fundraise to help cover the cost of tournaments.  The number and type of tournaments is ultimately decided upon by the head coach; however, it should always be with parent and player input.

Uniforms: 8U-12U teams receive two jerseys (home and away). 13U and up teams have the option to only have one jersey to reduce costs.  All players receive a fitted hat.  Baseball pants, belts, and socks are not included in the league fee.
